Thanks again to everyone for coming out and braving the elements.

Back At It!

It's been a while since I've updated the page but we are back at it again! After a two and a half year hiatus from teaching group classes due to my move to Florida and a bunch of other life changes, classes are back! I've partnered with USPSA GM, 2021 IDPA National Champion and pizza gun lover Les Kismartoni to bring a very familiar class format to Florida, the south east and beyond. Our most recent class was a sell out at Rangewerx in Ft Meade, FL.

Blake Drills - explained

Recently there was a post on Brian Enos by a newer shooter, asking where he was losing time during his runs. Dr Matt prescribed to him more Blake drills, because that's my favorite thing to do and everyone needs more of them (Blake drill here if you need an explanation)

There was some discussion back and forth about how to do the drill and I weighed in with my specific thoughts. This is how we teach them in class. Remember, for every drill there should be a goal, and in this one, it's matching your splits and transitions.

When I have students do the Blake drill I have them start with the gun in hand. I want them to take time to focus on a perfect grip and what that feels like, along with a perfect stance. The draw can be worked on in any number of other drills, but for me the point of that drill is the transitions and splits being equal, and nothing else.

As a test (like the bill drill), it's fine to do it from the draw, but I don't find it necessary when training. Especially if you are new to the idea of what it is.

How to get yourself to stop confirming each hit? Dryfire the same drill from the same spot before you live fire. In dryfire there's no bullet hole to look for so it should be easier.

Also, I have a metronome app on my phone. I set it to a reasonable time to start, (167 beats per minute is a .35 split) and dry fire it to that pace. Go left to right and right to left so you don't become tied to doing it only one way in matches. I also like to tell people to use more targets than you think. Paper plates are easy to set up around the house. Put out 10 of them evently spaced alone the wall or back of the couch or whatever and just go back and forth until your grip and shoulders get tired. The fastest time on my metronome app is 310 beats per minute, which is a .19 split and should totally be doable until the targets are 6 or more feet apart.

June 2018 class review

Thanks Jason for the great review

Jason Bediones
An absolutely phenomenal class with Matt, AJ, and Anthony from Super-Tactical. My body is beat, my hands are sore, and my feet is killing me. My mind is racing and rethinking all the information that was given today. Discovering the minutia in techniques and tips on movement and transition efficiency, self-diagnosis, and dryfire practice was amazing.
------------------------------------------------
This is my second class with ST and once again a very direct approach and doing constant reps and analytical feedback had me rewire my train of thought and identify deficiencies that I can rectify.
------------------------------------------------
My classmates were awesome and helped push me. I competed with some, trained with others, or met for the first time. I loved our class and the sectors as we were able to get eyes from all three instructors. Matt, AJ, and Anthony are perceptive, accommodating, hysterical, and competent instructors. I couldn’t endorse training with them more.
------------------------------------------------
The learning curve is steep and I know it will take time before I can put this into a match. But I’ve been set back on the right road and am grateful for their mentorship.

Area 8 recap

I think one of the coolest things about the Area 8 match is that (by my last count) there were at least 35 people shooting that have gotten Super-Tactical with us in our pistol classes. Thank you all so much for supporting us and trusting us with helping improve your pistol skills, and great job everyone for tearing it up out there!

As for me, I managed to finished 6th overall in Production division.  One bad stage cost me a top five, but I was happy with my performance for the most part. Here is the video

NEW IDPA Safety Officer Training Course Announcement

Super-Tactical would like to announce our new IDPA SO training program. Based on our years or competition shooting and professional experience with adult learning techniques and rapid knowledge acquisition in a "boot camp" type classroom situation, we are proud to announce a new safety officer training course that incorporates range and classroom time to produce the best trained SOs possible.

Due to demand in the region and in response to the difficulty of the online exam, with many local safety officers either having trouble re-certifying, passing the safety officer test for the first time, or just wanting to increase their knowledge and skills, Super-Tactical.com has developed this rapid learning course.

We will strive to teach SO techniques from the perspective of eliminating subjectivity in the rules and gamesmanship from the competitors wherever possible, while filling in the gaps that the official training courses leave.

The course is limited to 25 students and will include 8 hours classroom time combined with 8 hours range time, to be held on May 7th at our private facility in the Philadelphia region. Course requirements: approved IDPA legal pistol, holster, belt and magazine pouches. IDPA approved vest. Official printed hard copy of current edition rulebook, 150 rounds of ammunition, IDPA Marksman or Sharpshooter classification.

Email training@super-tactical.com to register.

First 2015 Training Class recap

Super-Tactical.com will be hosting competition pistol training classes lead by their two Grand Master instructors April 26th at New Holland and May 9th at Ontelaunee. There are still slots available for the May 9th class, email training@super-tactical.com for more info.

The first Super-Tactical.com training class of 2015, lead by Matt Olinchak and AJ Stuart on April 11th at Ontealaunee Rod and Gun club was a major success.  The students all worked hard and we had great weather. We started with the fundamentals of grip and stance, sight picture and trigger press. We then moved into draws, reloads, transitions, shooting on the move, and more. We ended the class with some runs on a small stage where the students were able to put together everything they learned for the day.

We were also able to give away some training materials in the form of some Ben Stoeger books to two students who won the challenges we put them through. Congrats to Ben and Ryan for winning the books.

Here are some reviews seen on social media from our students regarding their class experience

Just got home from taking a class today with Super-Tactical.com.

From my perspective A.j. Stuart and Matt Olinchak are very complimentary to each other as instructors. AJ has a technical eye to spot inefficiencies in technique and Matt is cerebral with stage design and break down. I took away 3 significant things to work on. Some may think these are small matters but know this - in USPSA it is the small things that make the biggest difference. Foundation is a word that gets thrown around but if you really study the game and in this instance technique I find the more I learn the more I realize how much more I need to learn. My 3 things are placement of strong hand thumb during reload, standards stance and shooting on the move. So I highly recommend it before they get big and start charging 2x more. So thanks guys, I had a great day.

-Ben

Great USPSA shooting class taught by Matt Olinchak and A.j. Stuart today. I had fun and learned a lot. Looking forward to practicing!

-Martin

The most useful thing I took away was a better (smarter) way to practice.
There are a lot of simple things I can be doing that will make a big difference.
